intersection letters

An intersection letter is the same as an intersection is to a beginning driver.  It strikes fear and panic into their hearts.  What we try to do is simplify intersections but making some very easy rules about intersections just like there are rules for real intersections.  We approach an intersection letter by with the first you say paradigm.  This means that intersection letters are always said in exactly the same order. In the case of ed below this is illustrated.  When you come to the letter ed you always
say it like a t first.  If this does not sound right then you go to the d sound and fianlly to the ed sound.

 A LONGER EXPLANATION:
There are basically three sounds you have to know when you look at the letter ed. The only question that comes up is which to say in what order.  Like an intersection, the right of way goes to who got there first and then to the person on the right.

In this case the first way to say the letter is like a t  or tuh. If that doesn't sound correct then you go to the next way. Which would be like a d or duh and if that doesn't sound right then you  go to the next way ed.

this means that any time you see the letter ed first you say it like a t (tuh).
Like the words
worked
picked
liked

If the t doesn't sound right the next way is like a d (duh)
like the words
    fanned
               first say tuh  or fant
then if  that doesn't sound right then you say duh or fand(uh)

    planned
               plant
               then you say pland(uh)

finally if the first two did not sound correct then you say ed
     like the word requested
               first you say t
                    then you say d
                         then you say ed.

The two-way letters were much easier but they were done the same way.
